This position, as part of the CGG Subsurface Imaging Research organization, is responsible and accountable for developing, implementing, testing, and supporting new algorithms to improve imaging of the subsurface for the oil and gas industry.

Reporting to Research advisor or above, the Researcher will:
• Develop algorithms to solve a specified geophysical problem.
• Validate the algorithm on synthetic and real data to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the proposed approach.
• Support the porting of those algorithms on Subsurface Imaging HPC infrastructure by providing algorithmic and mathematical expertise on them.
• Support rollout of new technology through internal presentations and user support.
• Promote use of new technology to clients through scientific publications and presentations.
• Keep informed of internal requirements by building close relationships with the seismic imaging operations.
• Develop knowledge by reading academic publications, attending technical presentations, workshops, conferences, seminars.

Required Education & Experience:
• Strong maths skills are essential, as you must be capable of abstracting geophysical concepts with mathematical languages.
• Analytical and problem solving abilities, great attention to detail.
• Coding skills are also essential for this role, particularly FORTRAN or C/C++.
• Exposure to high performance computing (parallel programming, GPGPU).
• Effective communication & presentation skills.
• Highly motivated to deal with real data, solve problems and deliver high end technological products.
• Proficient in FORTRAN, C/C++ and parallel programming.
• Possess software engineering skills

• Fluent English - both spoken and written.

• Knowledge of seismic processing/imaging, is a plus
• Experience in wave propagation, inversion, or strong signal processing background is a plus.

Typical profile: M.S. degree with at least 3 years of successful research experience, PhD, school of engineering with background in Geophysics, Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering or any other related technical degree.
• Must be able to apply advanced mathematical operations and understand the underlying geophysical concepts
• Ability to interface with production and to share knowledge
